Help! Erratic idle and temperature reading

Help! I'm having some really odd problems with my car recently.

1. My idle fluctuates between 500-800rpm. It would drop to around 500, car would shudder, and the idle would bouce back up.

2. Temperature gauge readings would change while driving. Usually the needle is just to the left of the wavy part of the thermometer icon. Yesterday, it was in the wavy part. Today, it moved from just to the left of the wave to almost C and back during 20 minutes of driving.

The above two symptoms did not occur at the same time. I just thought they might be related. My coolant levels are fine.

Anyone seen these problems before?

Have you bled your coolant system? I think your car has a bleeder on the thermostat housing.

A bubble can cause erratic idle when it is in the idle controls and also can make the temperature spike hot when the bubble gets stuck in the water pump.

I haven't bled my coolant. I can give that a try.

My temerature spikes COLD, not hot. The needle has never passed the halfway mark. I'd be more concerned if it went hot. Cold, has me perplexed.

For a 95 GSR, the bleeder is on the upper left of the header...or lower right of the VTEC solenoid.

Thermostat stuck wide open?...can you get any decent heat out of the heater? Is the upper rad hose getting real hot ( >180 deg. coolant should be flowing through it)
